The Navy Oak, Leafield (prev. The Spindleberry)

For the second issue running, Beer on Tap is pleased to announce the re-opening of one of the previously ‘mothballed’ pubs in the North Oxfordshire Branch. The Navy Oak, named to commemorate the use of Wychwood oaks to help build the British navy in the past, is now in the capable hands of Alastair and Sarah Ward. The whole place has been re-furbished and presents a really welcoming picture with a spacious bar and plentiful dining areas and local staff. Alastair is the chef and has a brilliant track record. He trained with Rick Stein at Padstow, has worked at Gidleigh Park at Chagford, Devon, the Pharmacy, London and Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago. He was also the Head Chef at the New Inn at Coln Street. Sarah, at front of house, was brought up in pubs and restaurants. She worked at Colleys Supper Rooms, Lechlade,Nutfield Priory Hotel in Surrey, and was a relief manager for McMullens. The beers at the time of visiting were Hook Norton Old Hooky and Adnam’s Bitter. They specialise in local foods and can accommodate private parties and functions. Walkers are very welcome.
